RelateWell Counselling Services in partnership with Merri-bek (formerly Moreland) Maternal and Child Health Services

RelateWell Targeted Psychological Services in the perinatal and postnatal space is governed by the evidence base: 

The experiences during the early years of a child’s lifecycle from conception to the end of the child’s second year have lifelong consequences for health and well-being. The first 1000 days is the stage of maximum developmental change, with the greatest potential to impact health and well-being over the child’s life.

The significant transition point to parenthood:

Whilst the ‘baby blues’ is thought to be a normal response to giving birth, there are serious mental health issues that women and men can develop and experience in the perinatal (and postnatal) period: 

• Decline in emotional, mental and physical well-being - perinatal / postnatal depression and anxiety
• Unrealistic expectations, idealised view of parenting infants
• Dissatisfaction with post birth roles
• Father’s involvement and attachment to the infant
• Child attributes or disposition (feeding, sleeping patterns)

In addition to decreased positive relationship exchanges and/or relationship dissolution resultant from post-partum relationship stresses and the pressures experienced through the early parenting period. 

What we do

In collaboration with the Merri-bek Maternal and Child Health Service, RelateWell delivers affordable counselling to parents referred by their Maternal and Child Health Nurse to our experienced team of psychologists and counsellors. Our counselling services are delivered onsite within Maternal and Child Health Centres throughout Merri-bek City Council. 

Our team of psychologists and counsellors can assist parents during this significant transition in supporting their mental health and their relationship.
